Surfside Beach Appliance Repair

Conway, SC Appliance Repair

The town of Surfside Beach, located in Horry County along the Grand Strand, was incorporated in 1964. However, the history of the area goes back much farther. The area was originally the home of John M. Tillman and was called The Ark Plantation. Tillman’s primary crop was the humble sweet potato but he also grew rice on his plantation, as was common along the coast in the 1800’s. Having no children, Tillman’s surviving family members divided the land between them after his death in 1865 and the area was renamed Roach’s Beach and kept that unfortunate name until the early 1920’s when it was renamed Floral Beach. In 1952, a group of investors purchased the land and gave the town its current name of Surfside Beach. The Surfside Beach Pier was originally built in 1953 but has been rebuilt at least three times after being damaged or washed away by tropical storms and hurricanes. The most recent rebuild of the pier was in March of 1993. Nicknamed “The Family Beach” by locals and visitors, the year-round population is still relatively small at 4,187 people in 2014 with a median age of 51 years old and household income of $41,690. With a range of housing options – some very high-end, the median home value in Surfside Beach is a bit higher than some other communities in the Grand Strand at $233,610 in 2013.
