Pawleys Island Appliance Repair

Officially, the town of Pawleys Island consists of the actual island about a half mile wide and just over three miles long with only 105 permanent residents. Pawleys Island is considered the end point of the Grand Strand and is located in Georgetown County. The Waccamaw and Winyah Native American Tribes called the area Chicora, meaning “the land”. The island was initially the summer home for rice plantation owners and their families from the mainland who wished to avoid the plentiful summertime mosquitoes and the malaria and other illnesses they carried. Quite a few of the current residents can trace their lineage back to those early plantation owners and the current median age of island residents is 66.8 years old. There is a larger, unincorporated community of Pawleys Island residents on the mainland numbering 12,935 residents with a median age of 55.4 as of 2014. The community is also home to the world-famous Pawleys Island Original Rope Hammock initially created by Captain Joshua John Ward (Cap’n Josh) in the late 1800’s.
