3 Signs Your Refrigerator May Not Be Cooling Properly

A good quality refrigerator can last for many years without any sign of trouble. However, just like any other household appliance, it is prone to breaking down every once in a while. It can be difficult to know when your refrigerator is not working optimally if you have had it for so long.


Here are some indicators that your refrigerator is not cooling properly.

1.    Food is rapidly spoiling

Food going bad before it normally would is an indisputable sign that your fridge is not properly cooling. You will also start to notice that food going bad before its use-by-date forcing you to make extra trips to the supermarket. When a refrigerator is unable to maintain the temperatures it is supposed to, it uses more energy than normal resulting in higher energy bills.

2.    It stops humming

You quickly get used to the humming and forget about it. When the humming stops but the light is still on can mean bad news. This could be a sign that you are dealing with a broken compressor. The compressor is without question one of the most important parts of a refrigerator. If it is not working the refrigerator will not cool effectively.

3.    Water around your refrigerator
